Popularity of televised competition for entertainers

Why is televised entertainment competition (So you think you can dance, American Idol, America’s Got Talent) so popular?  Is it because people like seeing ordinary people that are not previously famous doing something extraordinary?  Do you watch these shows and say to yourself “Hey, I can do that!!”  I think America has a fascination with watching their peers perform under a tremendous amount of pressure.  Do you feel nervous for the person about to lay it on the line for millions of people around the world watching?

  1. I like to watch these shows because youre never going to know what happens on live TV. Its mostly amateurs being put in the spotlight , its pretty nerveracking. Like American Idol for example, when Brooke White messed up the song and had to start over, it’s just fun to watch!!

  2. I’m a comedian and the more shows the better material for me. They all come out of hiding and think they have a talent, it is refreshing to see someone with real talent though.

  3. I enjoy watching people bomb. Dancing- falling Singing- voice cracking, all great stuff. As long as we have people out there that think they’re stars then we will have entertainment.

  4. Its a true feelgood story about some unknown who makes it big. It proves if you are out there and talented you can eventually make it!
